ISO at VDL HMI

The importance of working in accordance with standard procedures and best practices was recognized well before the turn of the century. At that time we began documenting all the procedures, instructions, forms and more in a handbook. That formed the cornerstone for the first certification. By the end of the 1990s VDL HMI – at that time still Helmondse Metaal Industrie – was first awarded the ISO 9001 certificate.

The brief description of the 9001 standard fits well with the no-nonsense approach at VDL HMI: say what you do, do what you say and prove it. That still sums up the way we work today.

Expansion of the number of standards

Expanding our certifications has become a continuous activity at VDL HMI, for a number of reasons:

  • A changing environment
  • VDL HMI's desire to structurally reduce environmental impact
  • Good experience with ISO 9001

ISO 14001: The certificate was awarded to the company in December 2014. The ISO 14001 standard is aimed at reducing negative impact on the environment.

EN 1090: VDL HMI earned the EN 1090-1 certificate in July 2015. This is a specific certificate for the welding of steel.

Latest version of the ISO standards

Working according to standards has become part of the corporate culture over the years. After the release of the 2015 versions of the 9001 and 14001 standards we immediately began implementing them. As one of the first within VDL Groep, we were certified for the updated versions of these ISO standards in December 2016 – a clear example of the importance VDL HMI places on managing risks.
